Prep work and beginning reading of The House on Mango Street. Vocabulary work Monday followed by reading and discussion of the text with questions (packet given out last week).

Working on Narrative writing method. Reading Maya Angelou's "Champion of the World," Amy Tan's "Fish Cheeks," Calvin Trillin's "Spelling Yiffniff," Barbara Ascher's "On Compassion," and George Orwell's "Shooting an Elephant." Topic preparation or computer lab time on Friday. Rough draft of Narrative essay is due Wednesday 9/21.
Period 6:
Reviewing sample college essays and beginning working on Narrative writing method. Reading Maya Angelou's "Champion of the World," Amy Tan's "Fish Cheeks," Calvin Trillin's "Spelling Yiffniff," Barbara Ascher's "On Compassion." Studying past samples of student Narrative essays in preparation for rough draft being due Thursday 9/22.
