Period 1: First two independent reading responses due Monday on your blogs. See the post below this one to view a model I created as well as comment with a link to your blog so I can get to it.
We will continue reading from The Great Gatsby this week in class with a written response after chapter 3 in class. Continue to take notes using the study guide.
Due Wednesday: Write a response comparing/contrasting what we see of people in the first three parties (dinner party chapter 1, NYC party chapter 2, Gatsby party chapter 3). Write a full reflection and use specific details from each of the chapters. This is practice for an upcoming writing assignment we will be completing for the book.
Second set of independent reading responses (three to be added to your first two postings) are due Monday 3/16.
Period 4: Transcendentalism essay final draft due Monday, along with reading from The Great Gatsby through chapter 3 (you can read ahead if you choose). Homework for Tuesday: Write a response comparing/contrasting what we see of people in the first three parties (dinner party chapter 1, NYC party chapter 2, Gatsby party chapter 3)--20 points.
We will be reading chapter 4 in class Thursday. Chapter 5 is due Monday 3/16. We will have a reading response after chapter 5 that we will complete Monday 3/16.
Periods 5 and 7: Comparison/contrast essay will be officially assigned by Wednesday 3/11. Begin thinking about potential topics as we read sample essays. Response questions for Dave Barry's Lost in the Kitchen is due Monday 3/9 (Period 5). We will be focusing on thesis statements and organization early next week.
Period 5: Read "Grant v. Lee" for Wednesday and answer the 4 questions at the end.
We will be in the room 107 Writing Lab Thursday - Friday this week to work on essays, so have a topic decided on for Thursday.
ROUGH DRAFT OF COMPARISON/CONTRAST ESSAY IS DUE TUESDAY 3/17.

Due Thursday: Write a comparison of the movie versions of Chapter 3 and the portrayal of Gatsby's party in the books. What similarities and differences do you see and what were both movies trying to show with their interpretations?
