Wednesday: We will be reading "Advice to Youth" and viewing "The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg" to understand Twain's writings, style, and satire. Homework will be choosing one of the readings by Twain at this site: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/70/70-h/70-h.htm to read and bring to our discussion on Friday.
Friday: We will be finishing our discussion of Twain and reading "The Pedestrian" and "Harrison Bergeron" to continue our discussion of satire.
Tuesday we will begin our look into Transcendentalism and its well known representatives Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau.
Period 3:

We will finish our discussion of "Fear" and suspense and move on into Edgar Allen Poe and his use of suspense and other literary techniques. After this we will make our transition to the book The House on Mango Street.

We will be beginning The House on Mango Street on Thursday and finishing the vocabulary assignment. Friday we will be finishing the first few chapters and reading assignment #1.
Period 6:
First essay is due in rough form Wednesday for use in peer editing. Final draft is due Thursday. We will be doing a brief lesson related to the college application essay before moving into our Narrative/Description unit.
Period 7:
We will begin writing our narrative essay, History of Myself as a Writer, on Tuesday and use this to discuss the phases of the writing process. We will have computer lab time Tuesday and Thursday. Wednesday we will begin reading The Longman's Guide to Peer Tutoring and begin class discussion grading.
