Week of 10/19 through 10/23

Period 1:

Graded discussion Friday 10/15 to carry over into Tuesday 10/20. Continued conferences on student writing/essays ongoing in class. We will begin The Scarlet Letter this week with chapter 1 as a class and chapters 2 and 3 read independently.

Deep thinking statements to debate in preparation for the novel:

1. We must accept responsibility for our actions or suffer the consequences
2. Revenge destroys both the victim and its seeker.
3. Within each person exists the capacity for good and evil.
4. It is by recognizing and dealing with our weaknesses that we grow stronger.
5. People cannot be happy if they base their identities on the expectations of others.
6. True repentance must come from within.
7. Guilt can destroy a person, body and soul.

Period 5:

Continued work on vignette assignment (revision). Final version will be due Thursday 10/22. Use template if struggling with the assignment (see assignment sheet for instructions).

Period 6:

We will be in the computer lab working on Comparison/Contrast essays Thursday and Friday. Rough draft due Monday 10/26.




Period 7:

Working on research project related to issues in writing/peer tutoring. This will be the final large assignment of the marking period.
