Period 2: First essay due Tuesday, 9/9. Beginning unit on Descriptive/Example writing. Homework due Monday: Read "Silk Parachute" and "How It Feels to Be Colored Me" and for each, write down the dominant impression (thesis) idea and analyze the use and effectiveness of descriptive techniques we have discussed.
Period 4: Photos for school pictures will be taken during class on Tuesday, 9/9.
Short story "The Lady or the Tiger" with questions is due Monday, 9/8. Other stories that will be read this week include "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut, (annotation due Tuesday 9/9 regarding wording/language and elements of a fairy tale to be found in the story) and "The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allen Poe on Wednesday. Period 5: First Reader Response due on Monday ("Why We Tutor"). We will be discussing the article, your responses, and continuing the discussion from Friday. Tuesday you will need a piece of writing as we are going to be discussing and acting out the parts of peer editing. "What is Good Writing" Reader Response due Thursday. Thursday we will begin our first writing assignment. Due Friday: Prewriting for personal narrative "History of Myself as a Writer."
