Week of Oct. 6 through Oct. 10

Period 1:
We will be finishing House on Mango Street for Monday. On Monday we will be discussing themes in preparation for the in-class essay starting on Wednesday (will be completed in class between Wednesday and Thursday). Friday we will be completing a webquest related to our upcoming book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and censorship.




Period 2:
Working on our Comparison/Contrast essay writing unit. Reading model essays in class in preparation for writing our rough draft (rough draft will be due Tuesday, Oct. 14.)




Period 4:
Tuesday we will be in the media center computer lab to finish the in-class essay and begin a research a mini-research assignment on issues related to Twain and this book (due Thursday) as we transition into the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The rest of the week will include class discussion and the movie The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg.




Period 5:
We will be working on topics and research methodology in preparation for the expository/informative essay we will begin this week. We will be discussing issues of plagiarism, research, and the Purdue OWL and other online MLA resources.

Friday we will be taking a field trip to the University of Connecticut to attend the Writing Center conference and meet, talk, and work with other peer tutors from high schools and the university.




Period 8:
